ong Island is located just east of Manhattan on the southeastern tip of New York State. It is comprised of four counties; Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk. In general, the heart of Long Island is Nassau and Suffolk, whereas Brooklyn and Queens are part of the five boroughs of New York City.

The Gold Coast
Originally comprising vast areas of the North Shore of Long Island, from Great Neck to Huntington, the Long Island "Gold Coast", as it was called, was a favorite retreat of the rich and famous. Starting at about the turn of the century and through the 1930's, the North Shore was a virtual Who's Who of High Society. From the Astors to the Vanderbilts, this was "THE" place to be for some of the most notable Americans. Today, many of the mansions are gone, but the original beauty remains.

Fine Living
The largest house in New York is on Long Island. So, arguably, is the smallest. But between the over-the-top glamor of Otto Kahn's 72-room Oheka estate and the modest simplicity of the one-room Hempstead Town bay shacks lie nearly 750,000 single-family structures -- homes that embody the sweep of Long Island history and a surprising range of architectural styles. There is simply no limit to the styles of homes available on Long Island, and the terrain of the island is equally diverse and quite amazing. The south shore is rather flat and lined for miles with wonderful sandy wave-filled public beaches, beach communities and nature preserves. The north shore can be very hilly and is lined with New England style villages, romantic boat-filled harbors, unique public parks, country clubs, golf coarses, yatch clubs and private community beaches. Since the north shore waters are part of Long Island Sound, the shore waves are very subtle. And whether you are on north or south shores, the fishing is great!

Getting Around
Although visitors (and Long Islanders at times) may complain about the volume of traffic on Long Island highways, natives know that there are numerous shortcuts and lots of options for the person on the go. Furthermore, the Long Island Rail Road offers easy commuting from 34th street, New York City to Montauk Point, on Long Island's eastern tip. Buses, airports and ferrys all make Long Island a place where millions of people can come and go, without creating a sense of overcrowding.

There is a special privilege and prestige that comes with living in a place that is so unique, so fantastically beautiful and so well known as Long Island, New York. Could you picture yourself living here? We can help make it happen!
